The Enneagram Center of Asheville
We emphasize the enneagram’s original purpose as a tool for liberation. This system is not solely about fixation, each character type has a pathway to the open and expanded qualities of the enneagram.
who we are
The Enneagram Center of Asheville is a mother and daughter team with over 30 years combined Enneagram experience. We are both licensed psychotherapists and also use this system in our private practices. We are located in downtown Asheville NC and hold workshops about twice a month.
We use the Enneagram as a tool to recognize deep and often unconscious patterns that have a powerful influence on the way we all feel and behave. Building this awareness increases our compassion for ourselves and others and gives us a pathway to evolve.
We have studying the Enneagram over 30 years combined. Lissa has been teaching the Enneagram from over 2 decades and we founded what is now the Enneagram Center of Asheville in 2014.
Lissa Friedman, PhD has been studying the Enneagram since 1988, initially with the Arica School, which was established by the founder of the Enneagram – Oscar Ichazo.
Lissa left the Arica School in the 1990s and began to study with several other teachers and experientially through her private practice work with clients.
In 2001, Lissa developed a 3 part Enneagram workshop series and spent the next decade teaching. Her knowledge of the Enneagram continues to deepen through her teachings.
She has published 5 articles in the Enneagram Monthly, presented at 4 International Enneagram Conferences, and published a DVD series of interviews with people of each type.
Tammy Hendrix, LCSW began studying the Enneagram when her mother developed the 3-part workshop series in 2001.
Tammy spent the next decade taking countless workshops with her mother, attending Enneagram conferences and devouring most of the Enneagram literature.
In addition to her mother, Tammy has studied with Eli Jaxon-Bear, Tom Condon, Beatrice Chestnut, & Sandra Maitri.
She uses the Enneagram in her psychotherapy private practice with individuals, couples, families and groups.
The Embodiment Tradition
We have a unique and captivating teaching style!
After decades of studying and teaching the enneagram, we developed a skill for embodying each enneatype. We call this the embodiment technique and it’s unique because it teaches how to recognize the energetic distinctions of the 9 types.
The information of each enneatype is extracted by interviewing and/or having a dialogue with each other in character. The enneagram is such a complex system and this style of teaching keeps participants engaged and interested throughout the workshop. In addition to an extensive amount of information, people leave with a felt sense of each type.
